17 Months Old

Climbing continues to be a big thrill. You love that we let you walk up stairs holding just our hand. You also want to try climbing up onto everything. Chairs, tables, basically any other pieces of furniture that are about chest height, are no obstacle for you. Once you get up, you are able to turn yourself around and sit facing forward. You will sit there for a split second, kicking your legs. Then you roll over, wiggle down and do it all again. Your new favorite is climbing up on the ottoman and secretly standing/jumping on it before we tell you to get down. You love pushing the boundaries to see what you can get away with.
I frequently find us in no-win situations as you demand that we let you tackle some tasks on you own, even when we know you'll need our help. Like putting on your shoes and socks, turning the pages in a book by yourself, putting a hard puzzle together or feeding yourself with utensils. When we try to help, you tilt your head downward and give us the "hairy eyeball," in attempt to let us know you disapprove. Sometimes you even swing your arms around to make us back up and give you your "learning space." You really don't like it when I giggle at you, but your independence needs guidance and when you give me "that look," I cant help but laugh.
You also occasionally but very deliberately disobey our orders. We will tell you, "Don't touch," and you look right at us, reach out and touch it. You usually say sternly "no," as you are touching it and then smile. Just to let me know that you are doing it to see my reaction. You are such a STINKER!
One of my new favorites is when you grab your daddy and I by the hand and lead us somewhere to show us something. It might be as small as showing us you put your shoes by the door, or it means you want us to do something, like take you outside or read a book. You grab us and say please. Then you lead us to the area or item you want to show us and try to explain what you want as sweetly as possible. It is utterly adorable. I just want to kiss you all over when you do it.
You love to play outside. This week I let you help me water the flowers and plants. You loved it. Now that minute we hit the door, you run towards the hose and start tinkering around. You also love to play in the grass and roll around, pick up the mulch (lick it) and throw it and run around in the yard catching bubbles. Everyday when we get home you are eager to hit the back porch, go get the mail with momma, or take a stroll in your cars.
You are growing so fast. I wish it would all slow down, but I am so proud of what a sweet, inquisitive little toddler you are growing into!
